Resilience Day 2024

26 June 2024

On the 17th June 2024 we held our annual Resilience Day. Resilience Days are an opportunity for students to learn new skills, develop the right mind-set and prepare for the future they want.

Our Year 7 students showed resilience by making board games completely out of recycled materials. Students had to work in groups to a tight time frame but managed to make some absolutely brilliant games. We’re really proud of them.

Our Year 8 cohort created scripts, costumes, sets and marketing pitches for a new crime drama today and all in 4 and a half hours! Their presentations at the end of the day made us incredibly proud. Building resilience again!

Year 9 took part in a number of activities as part of our Resilience Day. We’re so proud of our students and grateful for our staff, here is a breakdown of what they participated in:

  • Our Year 9 ACE students visited London Zoo to learn all about animal conservation. Ms Priestley clocked up over 17000 steps today but the group were rewarded by seeing two new lion cubs!
  • A group of Year 9 headed to Greenwich park to complete an orienteering course set up by our own Ms Khanna. We’ve loved hearing about their race across the park to the finishing line.
  • Some of our Year 9 cohort took part in a survival skills workshop. They gathered wood to light a fire and cooked a two course meal for themselves. It tasted fabulous!
  • Our scientists and artists worked together to complete our annual Resilience Day art instillation that turned images of bacteria into a beautiful showpiece.
  • Our performers took over the drama and music studios to create an original song that promotes some of our key resilience principles. As ever, we’re so proud of their achievements.
  • A group of Year 9 students created poetry today and then toured the school as journalists to capture the amazing achievements on Resilience Day. We’re so proud of their work and humbled by their willingness to promote the work of their peers.
  • A team of Year 9 students showed real resilience and commitment today, improving our school environment for everyone by replanting garden areas and creating art out of discarded bottle tops. We’re so impressed by their achievements.
  • Finally, a large numbers of Year 9 students took part in a PE and Games Workshop, taking on a number of challenges and pushing themselves to achieve more together.

It was an amazing day to be in school and see the effort our students put into their various activities and challenges and the resilience shown was outstanding. Thank you to Mrs Barnes for coordinating the whole day.
