Cleeve Park has a long tradition of productions, most recently Joseph and Little Shop of Horrors.
Our music department is fully catered for with a new purpose built area including 2 large teaching rooms equipped with i-MACS and an appropriate range of music software to stretch and develop students talents. The department has 3 small practice rooms for expert one to one tuition with individual instruments. A large practice room for large groups and choirs can be used as an additional live room for the recording studio.
The PE department have benefitted from a range of new facilities this year with a 3G pitch, a new conditioning gym and resurfaced netball courts supplementing the extensive grass fields, large indoor sports hall and a smaller gym.
PE lessons take a variety of forms utilising the different areas for a range of sports.
Welling Football Academy
From September 2020 our 6th form was enhanced by the addition of a football academy in association with Welling United FC. Students have 3 dedicated coaching sessions with Welling on the new Cleeve Park 3G pitch. They are then taught by Cleeve Parks specialist PE team to complete a Level 3 Cambridge Technical Diploma in Sport. The Academy is limited to 25 students a year and need to successfully pass the football trials for Welling and have an appropriate Academic ability to study at this level.
Our new state of the art auditorium with lighting, sound and performance area give the opportunity for those interested in both performance and the technical aspects of delivering a live performance to fulfil their ambition. The rooms are used for drama during the school day, but convert to a full auditorium for school productions and events.
The SEND Department, Heads of Year and Pastoral Team provide bespoke support for students to reach their potential. Challenge Activities are targeted at most able students who will have the opportunity to work with academics from leading universities on extended projects.
Our strong pastoral care system is founded on the belief that each student needs to feel valued, secure and supported in order to achieve success. Tutors meet daily with students in their form and, as the first point of contact, provide support, informed by a detailed knowledge of each individual.
Students at Cleeve Park are expected to take responsibility for their own learning and are challenged and supported to achieve their best in the classroom, but also taught to become independent learners, setting high expectations for themselves and working hard to achieve their own ambitious goals.
Students are encouraged to achieve not only so that they will attain their personal best, but also to enable them to make a significant contribution to the school and wider community.
An ethos of polite and respectful behaviour is instilled in all our students alongside a strictly adhered to uniform policy.
Our canteen service is provided by an external catering company.
We have a main canteen primarily for yrs 7 – 11. The 6th form have a separate coffee bar which serves various options more tailored to the 16-19 age range and accepts chip and pin payments aswell as the usual online system.
We are a cashless school, so all payments go through our online payment provider for both the canteen and other purchases such as for trips.
We follow the National Curriculum at all Key Stages with students studying the following subjects:
KS3 English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Art, Drama, Food and Textiles, Geography, History, Computer Science, French, Music, PE, Sports Studies, Technology and Religious Studies. Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) is also integrated in our curriculum.
KS4 Students study English, Mathematics, Science, PE, Religious Studies and Personal Development. Students also select a pathway involving three additional subjects which give balance to the curriculum and allows them to develop their interests and attitudes.
KS5 Our Sixth Form offers a wide range of Level 3 and some Level 2 courses. Students are encouraged to access the wider curriculum by volunteering, mentoring and taking on leadership roles.
The school uses Google Classroom as our online learning platform and uses a number of other packages and products to support students with home learning.
Every student is actively encouraged to broaden their horizons and make the very most of all that they and life have to offer. Students can extend their learning and develop lifelong interests and skills through an exciting and extensive extra-curricular and enrichment programme. Examples include –
• Individual music tuition on a wide selection of instruments.
• Frequent musical and dramatic performances, which will take place in our state of the art performance area.
• Duke of Edinburgh and other leadership programmes
• Competitive and non-competitive sport in school and against other local schools
• Clubs such as STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths), PE clubs, Art Club and Book Club
• Educational trips and visits for example to Poland to experience Auschwitz, annual ski-trip, French trips to support
MFL, theatre trips, science trips and visits to various universities.
• Fund raising activities, charity projects an events for the local community.
• Study and homework clubs
• Reward days for attendance, effort and achievement
Our 6th form offers a wide variety of courses to deliver those most appropriate to our students, our 6th form offer has been enhanced in 2020 with the addition of a Football Academy in association with Welling United.
Students are supported and inspired to achieve by a passionate and committed teaching and support staff. Excellent support and guidance is provided throughout year 12 and 13 and every student is given the help they need to make a successful transition into the next step of their lives, be it university, employment or training.
Our 6th form are at the heart of our school and have a dedicated study centre with experienced staff and also a separate coffee bar.
At Cleeve Park we recognise that every student is different and each one has their own unique and special talents. All students are set challenging individual targets based on prior learning, with English and Maths classes grouped by ability.
The library which is located in the centre of the English Department is a vibrant area of the school with a range of activities taking place during the day. Students in Years 7 – 9 take use the Accelerated Reader programme to develop and enhance their reading skills which is based in the library.
New for 2020 we have partnered with Welling United FC to have a football academy as part of our 6th form offer. Applicants have to meet the footballing entry requirements of Welling United and the Academic requirements for Cleeve Park. Students study a 2 year programme to achieve a Cambridge Technical Level 3 qualification in sport alongside coaching sessions with Welling United football coaches and competitive league matches.
We have a number of strategies to ensure that all students offered a place at Cleeve Park make a successful start to life in our school community in September. This includes –
Every child is visited at their primary school by one of our experienced team of teaching staff.
Students come for a two-day induction at the start of July which gives them an insight into life at secondary school. A Parent Information meeting is held during induction days to ensure you have all the information you need.
• All students are invited to attend our very successful Summer School which takes place at the start of the Summer holidays to make new friends, try out some of our facilities and really get to know their way around the school and have some FUN!
• A welcome evening takes place during the first term to meet the team.
• We welcome our new year 7 students on their first day in September before the rest of the school returns, giving students an opportunity to meet form tutors and settle in.
