This information is intended to provide clarity and transparency to students and parents or carers about what to expect from remote education if local restrictions require entire cohorts (or bubbles) to remain at home.

If classes are sent home to isolate, what can I expect from immediate remote education in the first day or two of pupils being sent home?

Students will be able to access their work and resources needed to support them via Google Classroom.

In the first instance they should ensure that any outstanding homework for that week has been completed before starting on any new work.

Will my child be taught broadly the same curriculum as they would if they were in school?

We are committed to providing a continuity of education for students who are working remotely.  Subject areas have planned their curriculums so they can easily be adapted to support those learning remotely.  Students working remotely will have access to the same curriculum knowledge, as those learning in school.  The curriculum will continue to be broad and include all the subjects that they would normally study.  The materials that are used remotely may vary from those used in class, but the knowledge, skills and outcomes will remain the same.

How much work will my child be set for each day?

We recognise that some households may need to share devices.  In order to allow children and families to manage their time and resources, work will be set at the start of each week, with deadlines clearly marked. We expect that remote education (including remote teaching and independent work ) will take students a minimum of 5 hours per day, in line with the DfE guidance.

How will my child access any remote education you are providing?

The school will deliver the curriculum, including resources and assessment, on Google Classroom.  Students should have a sticker in their planner with login details on it.  This will include their username and password.  Their username is also used as their school email address.  It is the responsibility of every student to protect their login details.  Classroom codes, passwords and logins MUST NOT be shared other than with parents.

What additional website might my child have to access?

Resources used may include those from Oak National Academy and other online websites such as BBC Bitesize, Mymaths and Seneca Learning.

Parents are able to set up an account on Seneca Learning to monitor their child's engagement and performance with the assignments that have been set.  

If my child does not have digital or online access at home, how will you support them to access remote education?

Google classroom can be accessed on a mobile phone, tablet, laptop or computer.  X-Box consoles can also be used to access Google Classroom.

Any student who does not have access to the wifi, internet or a computer device at home should contact their Head of Year in the first instance.  The school has access to a limited number of Chromebooks that students may borrow and must be returned by agreement when full school resumes.

Staff are mindful when setting work that they should not need to be printed out at home by families.  All work posted should be able to be completed online without the need for printing.  

Students should submit work to their teachers via Google Classroom.  If your child is struggling to upload work on Google docs it is acceptable to take a photo of the work and to hand that in instead.

How will my child be taught remotely?
  • All work will be posted on Google classroom.
  • It is important that students log directly into the subject specific Google Classroom, clicking on “Classwork” to receive instructions rather than rely on the “To Do” list that is generated automatically. 
  • Individual tasks (worksheets, quizzes, extended pieces of writing, practice exam questions) will be posted for the students to work on independently. 
  • An assessment piece will be set at the end of each topic
  • Whole Class Feedback Forms will be posted on Google Classroom.  
  • Students will be able to use the class comments and private comments function to get additional support and feedback from their teacher.  
  • In all key stages, subject teachers will invite students to attend several “live lessons” each week, which will allow students to interact with their teacher and their peers. 
  • KS5 students will receive several “live lessons” for each subject each week. 
  • Attendance at live lessons is compulsory for all students.   
What are the expectations for student conduct in live lessons and during live feedback sessions?

We have high expectations of student conduct both in school and online.  Any student whose conduct and behaviour falls below our standard, will be sanctioned and parents contacted.  

Students should only join live lessons using their school login details.  It is the responsibility of every student to protect their login details.  Classroom codes, passwords and logins MUST NOT be shared other than with parents.  

Students should have their cameras and microphones off during live sessions unless they are directed to have them on by their teacher. 

The “chat” function is an incredibly useful tool for staff to provide instant feedback and for students to ask or answer questions.  However, students must not use this for private conversations with other students.  If a class is unable to use the chat function correctly this will be turned off by the teacher in the lesson.

Please remember that the school oversees and owns all content on Google Classroom and must not be shared.

What are your expectations for my child’s engagement and the support that we as parents can carers should provide at home?

Students are expected to log into Google classroom every day and to complete the work that has been set for them.  If they have any questions about the work they should contact their teacher either using their school email account or by posting a comment on Google classroom.  Students should ensure that they post any work that their teachers ask them to complete by the deadline that has been given.  

As a parent, you can: 

  • Support your child to establish routines and expectations by formulating a plan for the day and a weekly timetable.
  • Remind your child of upcoming deadlines.
  • Encourage your child to access the work from the subject Google Classroom rather than the “To Do” list.
  • Make sure that your child has a break mid-morning and a lunch break, as they would do if they were in school.  This should ideally be away from all electronic gadgets and involve physical movement.
  • Where possible, provide a  work space away from distraction.  
  • Discuss the work they have completed and their experience of the day.
  • Join classes on Google Classroom.  (If a parent wishes to join a class, they should contact their child’s class teacher in the first instance).
  • Contact school if you are concerned or worried about an aspect of your child's learning.

Parents can also support their child by encouraging them to use the Sora app, which gives students access to a range of free eBooks and audio books.  Students have been emailed, on their school email address, details of how to log into this.

How will you check whether my child is engaging with their work and how will I be informed if there are concerns?

Parents are able to log in with their child to see the work that has been set for them on Google Classroom.  Please check this is the subject specific classroom and not the “To Do” list. This will also allow families to see that work has been completed, handed in and the feedback their child has received.  

Should a student not submit a piece of assessed work they will be contacted by their class teacher on email.  Parents will also be contacted, by email, about their lack of engagement and the missed deadline.

Every week staff in school will log all student engagement with the work that has been set.  If a student has not engaged with a particular subject the class teacher or Head of Department will contact families to inform them.  Should a student not engage at all with remote learning the child’s family will be contacted by the Head of Year to explore why this is the case and to provide solutions.

If a student refuses to engage in any remote learning we reserve the right to direct them to attend in school provision.

How will you assess my child’s work and progress?

Some individual tasks will be self-marking quizzes or assignments.  The use of these will allow students to receive instant feedback on their learning.  Students can also use the class comments and private comments functions on Google classroom to receive support and guidance from not only their teachers but also their peers.

During live lessons staff will provide feedback to students on the work they complete.

Staff will continue to respond to comments and emails within 48 hours during the school week.

How will you work with me to help my child who needs additional support from adults at home to access remote education?

To support SEND students fortnightly phone calls will be made to support both students and their parents and any questions or issues that arise from that communication will be directed to the appropriate staff member who will respond to the student or parent.

Whenever possible it will be a consistent member of staff who is the key contact for the student. 

The online learning has pre recorded introductions to each subject for the week so that there is clarity in the instructions given and so that pupils can revisit the explanations. The online learning includes low stakes testing such as multiple choice quizzes to enable SEND students and their teachers to assess their understanding quickly. 

All SEND pupils have been given a daily checklist to support them in forming a home learning routine and to support them in structuring a day at home.

How is the school supporting my child’s wellbeing?

Students will be invited by their tutors to attend a weekly online virtual registration.  These sessions will focus on PSHE and promoting mental health and wellbeing.  These face to face sessions will allow students to contact not only with their form tutor but also with students in their tutor groups.  We hope these connections will also help students to feel connected to Cleeve Park School.  

Year group assemblies will take place and allow students to come together with their peers.  

Fortnightly well being calls will be made to all students by the pastoral team.  These will allow students and their parents to share any concerns or questions they have.  Any questions that are raised during these calls will be passed onto relevant staff.  Our most vulnerable students who are working at home will receive a weekly phone call from the Safeguarding team. 

When schools return to partial/full opening, If my child is not in school because they are self-isolating, how will remote education differ from the approaches described above?

If an individual student is at home self-isolating they will have work posted on Google classroom or directly emailed to the student.  This work will cover the lessons that have been missed during the isolation period.  These resources may differ from the ones that are used in school, but they will cover the same knowledge, skills and content.  

Students should work through the resources that have been posted and return to their teacher any completed work.  Students should continue to use the class comments and private comments functions on Google classroom to communicate with their peers and their teachers.  Once work is submitted teachers will provide feedback on the work.
